Illinois Health Cares in Vermilion County embodies the collaborative effort of the leading health care providers, social service and non-profit agencies, and other community members. Our mission is to raise awareness of violence as a health issue (both in the medical community and with the public) and to help health care providers integrate appropriate screening, referrals, and follow-up in the areas of elder abuse, intimate partner (domestic) violence, and sexual violence.
The Illinois Health Cares (IHC) initiative is co-led by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois Violence Prevention Authority. The initiative is a statewide, multi-disciplinary effort that draws on the strengths of many collaborative partners with a stake in, and expressed commitment to, improving the health care response to domestic violence, elder abuse, and sexual violence. Illinois stakeholders are guided by the principle that collaborative work will result in an overall impact greater than the sum of what might be achieved by entities working independently.
